Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced his mission to win the unwavering support of the influential Mount Kenya region, a regional that was instrumental in President William Ruto’s ascension to power.
Gachagua pledged to unite the people of the Mountain behind President William Ruto during a church service in Nandi County, where he presided over a fundraiser at the Kapsabet ACK church.
Gachagua acknowledged his efforts in delivering a substantial 87% of the Mount Kenya votes to President Ruto during the recent elections.
“I am looking for the 13% which I lost to give William Ruto 100% of votes in the 2027 General Elections,” Gachagua stated.
He emphasized that President Ruto’s path to victory, like his 2022 victory, is dependent on a united front from Mount Kenya.
Gachagua urged the region’s residents to stand by the Kenya Kwanza administration and disregard opposition voices.
“Now, why are people making out a problem when I say this? He (Ruto) is looking for votes from people of Azimio affiliation who were forced into joining the political party through harassment. I want to bring everybody on board behind President William Ruto,” he added.
Gachagua’s remarks followed President William Ruto’s recent remarks during a visit to Homabay County, in which he (Ruto) stated that Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga owed him a political debt.
Ruto reiterated his support for Odinga in the past, anticipating reciprocal support in the 2027 general elections.
Diverging from Deputy Rigathi Gachagua’s viewpoint, President Ruto underlined his commitment to a united nation, declaring that Kenya should not resemble a shareholders’ company.
He rejected discrimination based on political affiliations, urging Kenyans not to be swayed by divisive rhetoric.
Instead, he emphasized the government’s mission to bring development to every corner of the country.
