Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called for clarification after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed to reveal details of contracts signed by Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties ahead of the 2022 elections.
In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Amisi requested the National Assembly to provide an explanation on the 30% shareholding for the Western region in the Kenya Kwanza government, as mentioned by Gachagua.
Amisi expressed frustration over the lack of development in his constituency, stating that the tarmacked roads he has been advocating for should be part of this 30% shareholding. He pointed out that Gachagua’s statement on the shareholding, which included appointments and projects like the revival of sugar factories, should be addressed in Parliament once the impeachment process against the DP is concluded.
“After #GachaguaImpeachment, I will be expecting the same to be explained on the floor of the house! We are tired of suffering as a constituency!” Amisi said, stressing the need for transparency and accountability.
In his defense, Gachagua had clarified during a press conference that his remarks about the country being like a shareholding company referred to agreements made by Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He said Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula had negotiated for a 30% stake for the Western region, which would cover appointments and key development projects.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has set clear conditions for his involvement in the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. In a series of posts on his official X account, Amisi argued that the impeachment of Gachagua would hold no meaning for his constituents if it does not translate into tangible benefits, especially in terms of development.
He pointed out that Saboti, since its creation, has never seen any significant gains from any government, emphasizing that if there is no road allocation in the current financial year for Saboti, then the impeachment of Gachagua is merely “hot air” to his people.
“I repeat! My people of Saboti have never benefited in any government since the creation of the constituency. If there is no road allocation in this financial year for Saboti, #GachaguaImpeachment is hot air to them. If they tell me they choose impeachment of Gachagua over road network, I will still oblige. They are my bosses! Kenya needs renaissance!” Amisi stated in a post shared on October 5, 2024.
In response to Gachagua’s apology to Kenyans and President William Ruto, Amisi demanded that the DP offer a personal written apology for his controversial shareholding remarks. The MP described the comments as causing “unfathomable pain and a feeling of worthlessness,” and gave Gachagua a deadline of Tuesday at noon to send the apology if he wished to retain his position as the country’s second-in-command.
Amisi’s remarks reflect both his frustration with the lack of development in his constituency and his insistence on accountability, calling for tangible outcomes before he would consider participating in Gachagua’s impeachment process.
