Business came to a standstill at Kamwangi village in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, on Friday, when irate villagers took to the streets to protest against a stalled water project in the area.

The villagers who trekked from Kamwangi town to the constituency Deputy County Commissioner’s office demanding answeres as to why the project, meant to improveagricultural activities in Mang’u, Chania and Githobokoni wards through irrigation, had stalled for close to a year.

The project involved the channeling of water through pipes from Githobokoni river into local farms and ensuring farmers grow bananas among other crops for both the local market and for export.

Carrying placards and twigs, the locals demanded to be addressed by county leaders.

County officers were yet to respond to the allegations by time of publication.
