Charlotte Purdue of Great Britain has withdrawn from the women’s Olympic marathon at Paris 2024 due to an ankle injury. The 33-year-old has been replaced by Clara Evans, who will compete in the event on 11 August.
Purdue had recently become the second-fastest British woman in the marathon, finishing in two hours, 22 minutes, and 17 seconds at the 2023 Berlin Marathon, only behind Paula Radcliffe.
Evans, 30, will make her Olympic debut in Paris following this late call-up. She will join Calli Hauger-Thackery and Rose Harvey in the women’s marathon, which is the final athletics event of the Paris 2024 Games.
In the men’s marathon, Phil Sesemann and Emile Cairess will compete the day before the women’s race.
