The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) has made significant changes to the party’s leadership.
To begin, the party nominated George Wainaina for Secretary General.
The position fell vacant after Nick Salat, the former Secretary General was expelled following his defection from the party to join President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance.
Other members nominated are Ibrahim Sheikh to occupy the position of the 1st National Vice-Chairman and Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda as 2nd National Vice-Chairperson.
Baringo MP Gladwel Tungo has also been nominated to the KANU Women Congress National Chairperson position and Mohammed Bashir Dahir as Secretary for Health.
Wainaina who was serving as the party’s National Executive Director will be replaced by Job Waka.
Moi however noted that the nominations are on an interim basis pending party elections.
He added that the criteria to nominate the aforementioned persons is based on the fact that “they bring a reservoir of political experience with extensive knowledge and expertise in the running and management of political affairs and institutions.”
