On Wednesday, October 2, Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale met with German Ambassador Sebastian Groth to discuss opportunities for enhanced collaboration on climate action between Kenya and Germany.
This partnership will be primarily focused on the flagship 15 billion tree-growing initiative and the ongoing restoration of the 47-kilometer Nairobi river ecosystem through the Climate Worx Mtaani project.
Germany is recognized as one of Kenya’s leading partners in climate action, supporting various initiatives such as the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), the 3rd National Climate Change Action Plan (NCAP III), and the Africa Climate Summit held last year.
Key topics of discussion included the progress of the 2022 Climate Development Partnership, which was signed between Kenya and Germany during COP27 in Egypt, the International Climate Initiative (IKI), and a trilateral mangrove rehabilitation pilot project involving Kenya, the UAE, and Germany.
Joining the Cabinet Secretary in the meeting were Ag Forest Conservation Secretary George Tarus and the ministry’s Director for Climate Change, Pacifica Ogolla.
