Last week, legendary Jamaican reggae artist Glenroy Washington, widely known as Glen Washington, touched down in Kenya. The 67-year-old “Rockers Not Crackers” singer has been giving several interviews since his arrival, where he revealed some intriguing details about his life.
Opening up about his past struggles with marijuana, Glen shared how he achieved sobriety. “I used to use the substance long ago, but I stopped when I realized it wasn’t necessary. It was all about mind over matter, and one day I just decided I didn’t need it anymore. At one point, I couldn’t even get on stage without a spliff,” he said.
He also added, “When it was illegal, I loved smoking it, but once it was legalized, I hated it.” Despite doubts from others about whether he could succeed without relying on marijuana, Glen confirmed that he has been clean and sober for several years now.
In another interview, he spoke candidly about having five children with three different mothers.
Glen Washington is in Kenya for the Africa Bound Reggae Fest 2024, set to take place on October 19th at the KICC.
On Sunday, October 20th, Glen Washington will perform at the PERAK Pamoja Festival, set to take place at the Nakuru Athletics Club Grounds in Nakuru City. The festival is organized and sponsored by the Pubs, Entertainment, and Restaurant Association of Kenya (PERAK).
PERAK National Chairman, Michael Muthami, explained their decision to expand reggae shows beyond Nairobi, saying, “This time around, we want to host shows for lovers of reggae music outside Kenya’s capital city, and Nakuru City is our venue of choice.”
Muthami also emphasized their commitment to providing reggae fans with top-tier entertainment and expressed appreciation to Glen Washington for accepting the invitation to tour Kenya. Speaking to *The Standard*, he mentioned that they expect the show to be a unique experience, adding that preparations and logistics for the event are already in advanced stages.
