Gor Mahia team manager Victor Nyaoro says his side is fully focused on retaining the FKF Premier League title despite recent mixed results.
According to Nyaoro, their mission is to win the league and bounce back to the continental arena after a botched CAF Champions League dream last season.
‘’We are focused on winning this title. We have a plan and honestly, we want to make up for the lost CAF Champions League slot which we missed after last season’s win,’’ said Nyaoro.
The team manager says their new signings of Sharrif Musa, Enock Wanyama and Musa Masika have blended well with the rest of the players, a feat that has successfully filled the gap left following the departure of Rodgers Mugisha last season.
Gor Mahia acquired the signature of the trio from Bidco United, Taiwan Leopards SC of China and Musa Masika from KCB. Mark Shaban from Commandos EC also made it to the record champions’ squad.
‘We felt a bit disturbed by the departure of Mugisha to Denmark but honestly our news signings have impressed and we are fit to go. We are currently a complete team without any gap.’’
Last weekend, the defending champions hit high-flying Nairobi City Stars 1-0 with a fourth minute solitary strike from talisman Benson Omalla enough for the green army to maintain top spot with 47 points, with City Stars dropping to position five with 37 points.
Nyaoro says they don’t’ feel threatened by any team in the league, noting that their strategy of taking one game at a time is paying off.
‘’Our mind is focused ahead. All teams in the league give their best in a match just as much as we do.
“So, we don’t feel threatened by any team in the campaign as long as our boys play according to instructions,’’ added Nyaoro.
Gor are the only side to lose one match, a 1-0 loss against Kenya Police but Nyaore says it is normal for them to hit a rough patch at some point in a season.
Gor next play Denmark FC in the round of 32 of the Mozart Cup on February 25 at Ukunda Show ground before meeting second placed Posta Rangers in the FKF Premier League match a week later.
