Record Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions and recently crowned Charity Shield winners Gor Mahia have registered 28 players ahead of the 2023/24 season with six of the team members being new recruits.
K’Ogalo who are 20 times premier league winners have also announced the release of veteran winger George “Blackberry” Odhiambo and midfield dynamo John “Champe” Ochieng. Also some of the players that have already departed the Green Army are centre-back Dennis Nganga and Ugandan attacker Peter Lwasa.
Some of the new players already on-boarded include Goalkeeper Kevin Omondi (Sofapaka),midfielders Kevin Juma (Nzoia Sugar) and Lawrence Juma (AS Kigali),defenders Kennedy Onyango (Nairobi City Stars),Rooney Onyango (Wazito) and Alvin Ochieng (FC Talanta) help Gor Mahia retain their title in the forthcoming campaign.
The young players incorporated last season during the transfer ban still retain their status with the likes of youthful goalkeepers Caleb Otieno and Dolph Owino also registered. Others include young full-backs Paul Ochuoga, Jerome Bryson Wangai and Gilbert Otieno. Forwards Parmenas Ochola and Lloyd Khavuchi who had roles at Gor Mahia Youth FC not long ago are also in the squad.
The original squad is largely untouched with Head Coach Jonathan McKinstry keeping faith with most of his title-winners. Club’s last season top-scorer Benson Omalla who was being touted with a move abroad alongside influential attacking midfielder Austin Odhiambo who also had uncertainties with is contract are a mainstay in the squad.K’Ogalo still retains experienced duo of Philemon Otieno and Geoffrey Ochieng as Captains assisted by long-serving club disciple Earnest Wendo as their Assistant.
