Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC have confirmed their group-stage opponents for the CECAFA Kagame Cup, scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam from July 9 to 21. The tournament draw includes twelve teams, divided into three groups of four teams each.

The top team from each group, along with the best runner-up, will automatically advance to the semi-final stage.

Gor Mahia opponents

Gor Mahia FC, also known as Kogalo, will compete against Sudanese champions Al Hilal SC, Zambian champions Red Arrows FC, and Djibouti Telecom in Group B of the CECAFA Kagame Cup. These matches will be held at the Azam Complex in Chamazi and the KMC Stadium in Kinondoni.

In Group A, Tanzanian Premier League side Coastal Union FC will face Hay Al Wadi from Sudan, Zanzibar’s JKU, and Somalia’s Dekadaha FC.

Group C includes Rwanda’s APR, South Sudan’s El Mereik Buntul, Uganda’s Sports Villa, and Tanzanian side Singida Blackstars.

Although the tournament will be held in Tanzania due to ongoing unrest in Sudan, the host nation will still contribute two teams to this year’s edition.

Gor Mahia CECAFA form

The CECAFA Kagame Cup is making a return after a two-year hiatus and will serve as a preseason platform for the participating teams ahead of the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup.

Gor Mahia FC has won the competition three times (1980, 1981, and 1985), showcasing Kenya’s dominance in the region during those years. Tusker FC is the most recent Kenyan team to win the tournament, defeating Uganda Revenue Authority 2-1 in the 2008 edition held in Tanzania.

The current champions of the tournament are Uganda’s Express FC, who won the title by beating Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 in the 2021 final in Dar es Salaam.

Zambia Premier League champions Red Arrows FC will be the only guest side participating in this year’s tournament.

Group A
Coast Union FC, Al Wadi FC, JKU SC, Dekedaha FC

Group B
Al Hilal, Gor Mahia FC, Red Arrows FC, Djibouti Telecom FC

Group C
