Governor Arati speaks after Daraja Moja black spot claims 2 lives

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has conveyed his sympathy after an accident that occurred in the Daraja Moja area along the Kisii-Keroka highway claimed the lives of two young girls.

In a statement on his X media, Arati said the two girls were returning home from attending classes at the Kisii Ajiry Centre situated at the Gusii Stadium.

“I am deeply saddened to convey my heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims of the terrible accident that occurred yesterday at Kisii Daraja-Moja along the Kisii-Keroka highway,” Arati stated.

Expressing sympathy for the families affected he added;

“May the Lord give strength and comfort to the bereaved families and intervene in occasioning quick recovery for the injured.”

The legislator also noted that the Daraja-Moja stretch of the Kisii-Keroka highway has gained notoriety as a black spot.

He emphasized that an upgrade was long overdue, expressing his concern about the recurring accidents in the area.

“Sadly, the Daraja-Moja stretch has been a black spot, and the upgrade of the highway is long overdue,” Arati declared

Daraja Moja accident

The crash took place in the Daraja Moja area when a pickup collided with the boda boda they were on. The Toyota Hilux pickup, travelling from Jogoo to downtown Kisii, experienced brake failure.

According to County Police Commander Charles Kases, the pickup crashed into the boda boda at the intersection of Kisii-Keroka and Kisii-Nyamira roads, resulting in the death of the two passengers on the motorcycle.

The boda boda, en route from Keroka to Kisii, was struck in the accident. Kevin Bundi, the bodaboda operator, sustained a deep cut to the head and a fracture on the left leg.

He was promptly taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention.
