Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has highlighted that the county’s wage bill, currently at 45%, is a significant obstacle to development. He expressed his administration’s commitment to reducing it to 35%, as mandated by law.
“One approach to lowering the wage bill is by gradually increasing our own revenue sources,” Bii explained. The county has consolidated revenue collection and licensing at a newly established service center, which has contributed to a record collection of Sh1.4 billion in the last fiscal year.
Bii credited the diligent tax payments of Uasin Gishu residents for this achievement.
“With improved revenue, we aim to enhance service delivery,” he affirmed. The governor emphasized his Nguzo Kumi (10-point) development agenda, prioritizing healthcare, basic education, agriculture, and water provision.
During a visit to the service center, Bii urged all staff to redouble their efforts to fulfill the county’s obligations. He also engaged with Eldoret’s youth during a walk through the streets, reassuring them of his commitment to address their concerns raised during recent protests.
“We value the youth’s contributions and have provided them opportunities across all sectors,” Bii noted, encouraging young people to proactively pursue available opportunities, particularly in the ICT field.
Bii praised the government of President William Ruto for creating numerous opportunities for youth empowerment. “We are dedicated to supporting our youth to ensure they benefit from these opportunities and empower themselves,” he concluded.
