Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has assured that the 74-year-old Afraha Stadium will be ready for use in June.

Governor Kihika visited the stadium on Wednesday to check on the progress of the Ksh.650 million World Bank project that has been ongoing since April 2021.

“I toured the renovation and rehabilitation project of Afraha Stadium. The stadium, which will sit 14,000 people, is at 65% completion and is projected to be completed by June this year,” noted Kihika.

Residents had complained about the delay in completion which according to earlier county reports was caused by the restructuring of some utilities that had passed through the stadium.

Nakuru City Manager Gitau Thabanja later revealed that the delays were caused by the restructuring of some utilities that had passed through the stadium like power lines and water pipes which supply water to the households neighbouring the stadium.

The cost of materials is also said to have gone up forcing some delays due to the restructuring of the contract.
