Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has pledged to complete the Mbooni Subcounty Hospital Isolation Centre and transform it into a family hospital to serve a broader population. The facility, which began construction in 2020 as a COVID-19 isolation center, stalled mid-way due to financial constraints and the waning of the pandemic.
Governor Mutula announced that his administration has allocated Sh46 million in the 2024/2025 Financial Year to finalize and equip the hospital. The upgraded facility will include a Mother and Child unit, laboratory, ultra-modern theater, casualty wing, and clinical rooms.
Once completed, the family hospital will serve a catchment area of 31,000 residents and have the capacity to treat 200 patients per day. This development aims to reduce the pressure on the Makueni Mother and Child Hospital, which currently provides specialist maternal and neonatal services for the entire county.
Governor Mutula made these remarks during a tour of the hospital, where he also commissioned new X-ray equipment and issued 179 allotment letters to Kikima town plot owners.
