Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has slammed Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for portraying Kisumu County as an insecure place for business and investments, noting that nothing could be further from the truth.
Speaking in Western Kenya over the weekend, Mudavadi pointed out that the protests being called by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga were undermining investment in Kisumu.
In a press briefing on Monday, Governor Nyong’o said Mudavadi himself is a landowner and investor in Kisumu, adding that his recent remarks while at an event in Western Kenya are regrettable.
“Let it be known that Musalia himself is a landowner and a notable investor in the city of Kisumu. I have not, as the Governor of this great County, received any complaints from him regarding the insecurity of his investments and properties in Kisumu,” said the Governor.
“But eager to please his boss by mouthing the typical UDA/Kenya Kwanza propaganda replete with ethnic profiling, he has recklessly tried to besmirch the good name that Kisumu enjoys nationally and internationally to achieve a narrow and selfish political ambition.”
The Kisumu Governor accused Mudavadi of seeking political mileage at the cost of tainting the image of Kisumu.
“Since Musalia cannot even fight for his own community, one wonders why he is poking his nose across the border to spread misinformation about Kisumu. The UDA brigade sacked Madam Matilda Sakwa from being the Chief Executive of the NYS a few days ago for no good reason except that she is a Luhyia and her successor a Kalenjin. Why is this not Musalia’s urgent concern?” posed the Governor.
Similar sentiments were shared by Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron who said Kisumu has enjoyed a very peaceful period and continues to attract investments.
“It’s surprising that he’s making money in Kisumu at the same time condemning the city where he has investments. Kisumu is peaceful most of the time and I want to urge investors to continue investing in the city,” said the MP.
