The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has released over Ksh.4.6 billion to support more than 1.15 million vulnerable Kenyans under the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme.
According to a statement from Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Principal Secretary Joseph Motari, the funds – amounting to Ksh.4,607,668,000 – will cater for stipend payments for June and July 2025, with each enrolled beneficiary receiving Ksh.4,000 (Ksh.2,000 per month).
The PS noted that the disbursements began on Thursday across the country, while also acknowledging a delay in the June payment, which he attributed to a necessary data cleanup exercise within the program’s registry.
“The State Department apologizes to beneficiaries for any inconvenience caused by the delay,” said PS Motari.
The cash transfer supports three key vulnerable groups in society: older persons aged 70 and above, orphans and vulnerable children, and persons with severe disabilities.
The initiative is part of a broader government push to alleviate poverty and uphold the dignity of society’s most at-risk populations.
PS Motari further urged all beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii programme to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access affordable and quality healthcare, in line with the government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
