All the remaining 27 Sub-Counties gazetted yet to be operationalized will be commissioned within one-year, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said.

Kindiki said Friday in Isiolo that the move, aligns with the government’s commitment to improving access to essential services for citizens.

“In this financial year 2023/24, all the remaining 27 sub-counties that are gazetted and not operational, all of them in the republic of Kenya will be operationalized,” Kindiki said when he presided over the operationalization of Cherab Sub-County in Isiolo County and installed the first Deputy County Commissioner.

Kindiki acknowledged that budget constraints limit the simultaneous operationalization of all sub-counties but assured that his office remains dedicated to making it happen.

The Interior CS emphasized that the selection of sub-counties for operationalization would prioritize areas grappling with security challenges.

“We are operationalizing first and fore most sub-counties that are found in areas that are facing insecurity,” he said, singling out Baringo, Wajir and Turkana counties.

The Interior CS further said that all National Government Administration officers (NGAOs) would be placed on performance contracts.

He added that their deliverables include ensuring safety and security in their areas of jurisdiction, registration of farmers, coordination of Government projects and 100 per cent enrolment of children in school.

Kindiki said that the government is committed to fulfilling its mandate to the citizens.

“We will fulfill all the promises we have made for this county and for our country because it is the right thing to do,” he said.

He called on NGAOs in the six North Rift Valley Counties and ASAL areas to work with security officers to upscale the war on cattle rustling, banditry, and terrorism.
