Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has committed to ensuring victims of the recent fires in Kibra and Kimana get full government support to help them get back on their feet.

CS Ruku spoke after visiting Mukungu in Kibra and Kimana Market in Kajiado South, where hundreds of families were displaced following separate fire incidents.

He emphasised that the government is putting in place proactive measures to enhance the safety and well-being of all Kenyans in the informal settlements.

“In line with President William Ruto’s vision, the government is prioritising the construction of affordable housing to ensure that all Kenyans, regardless of their social status, live in safe and dignified homes that are not vulnerable to disasters such as fire,” said CS Ruku.

In Kibra, more than 300 people were left homeless after a fire, suspected to have been caused by an unattended candle, razed several homes, while in Kimana, an electrical fault sparked a fire that displaced nearly 100 residents.

CS Ruku urged the community to support the Kenya Kwanza government’s development projects and to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme, which he said will guarantee access to universal health coverage.

Turning to political matters, the CS hit out at opposition leaders, accusing them of promoting divisive politics when they had failed to deliver during their time in power.

“Kenya is a unitary state. We must remain united and focused on development, not distracted by leaders who thrive on division and past failures,” he said.
