A cloud of grief has fallen over Epanja village in East Wanga Ward and Ebubere Secondary School in Mumias East Constituency, Kakamega County, following the sudden death of 19-year-old KCSE candidate, Calistus Wamboye Oteu.

According to his family, led by parents Patrick and Dorcas Oteu, Calistus and his sibling, who is also sitting for the same national examination, left home in good health on Tuesday morning.

However, the family was soon devastated by the tragic news of Calistus’s unexpected.

He reportedly died in class as he awaited to sit his exams.

The Oteu family, who had cherished hopes for their son’s future, has appealed to the government and well-wishers for support, noting that Calistus showed no signs of illness prior to this tragic event.

His body has been transferred to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital morgue in Mumias, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

In a separate incident, another male KCSE candidate from Tigania West, Meru County, passed away on Sunday, just hours before the start of the national examinations. Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma confirmed the student’s death, although details about the cause and circumstances remain scarce.
