Legendary chanteuse Habida Moloney is taking a sabbatical from music and acting after undergoing vocal surgery in India.

Moloney underwent a successful operation earlier this week and has begun her rehabilitation.
The sabbatical is to allow her to heal before making a comeback to the entertainment scene.

Speaking to Nairobi News before the surgery, the cheeky 43-year-old revealed that she will remain under the watchful eye of her doctors for another week before flying back to the country to continue her healing process.

During this time, she will also be undergoing vocal therapy, which essentially involves learning how to speak again.

“My voice is not what it used to be, I am going to India for an operation. I have a condition, there is a lump on my vocal cord that needs to be removed. If I don’t take care of it, I probably won’t be able to sing again. Apparently, this happens to singers, politicians, radio presenters, and speakers, so I am not feeling too good at the moment if you know what I mean. I haven’t been able to sing or perform since November so that’s why,” Moloney revealed before flying out.

This also means that Harriet, a character she reprises in Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdallah, TV drama production, Zari, will also be taking a break.

“The producers of Zari’s have also given me time off, which is amazing and I thank them for their understanding. I was also supposed to record a collabo with Khaligraph Jones, that will still happen but for now, self-care is important”.

As for why she opted for India instead of having the surgery in Kenya, the bubbly singer explained that it’s because she found a specialist who deals specifically with throat problems, and more importantly, vocal chords.

“The doctor knows that I am a singer and also said that after the vocal therapy, there will be a specialist who will take me through singing therapy,” she said.
