Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sought to dispel concerns that the Mount Kenya region will be disadvantaged by the newly unveiled, broad-based Cabinet awaiting Parliamentary approval.
Speaking on Sunday, July 28, 2024, after a church service in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, Gachagua assured that the vast Mt Kenya region is well-represented in the Cabinet, which is set for vetting in August.
DP Gachagua informed the congregants that several counties within the region, including Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Embu, Meru, Nakuru, and Tharaka Nithi, have representation in the broad-based Cabinet.
He dismissed claims that the region is upset with President William Ruto’s decision to include opposition members in his government. Gachagua further stated that he finds no fault in President Ruto’s decision.
“Sisi hatuna shida kwa sababu sisi katika eneo hili, hatujapoteza lolote. Rebecca Miano amerudishiwa yake. Murang’a tumepata, Kirinyaga tumepata, Kiambu tumepata, Embu tumepata, Meru tumepata, Nakuru tumepata, Hakuna Shida (We have no problem because this region has lost nothing. Rebecca Miano has been retained. In Murang’a, we have been represented; in Kirinyaga, we have also got a person; Kiambu, Embu, Meru,, and Nakuru are all represented in the Cabinet, so we have no problem),” Gachagua stated.
“Tharaka Nithi tumepata sasa hao wengine wakuje tufanye kazi. Kwa sababu mimi kama Deputy President kazi yangu nikumsaidia rais na kuwa mwanimifu kwake na kumheshimu. Ile ameamua mimi na fuata, juu mimi ni msaidizi wake ( In Tharaka Nithi, we have a representative in the cabinet, so the others should join us and work together. This is because, as a Deputy President, my work is to help the President and be faithful. What he decides, I follow, because I am his helper),” Gachagua added.
Ruto honoured his wish
At the same time, Gachagua told the residents that President Ruto honoured his wish while constituting his new Cabinet. DP Gachagua indicated that he defended some issues that the President honoured.
“Yale yote amefanya sisi tumekubali, yangu nimetetea na imefanyika (All he has done, we agree; I also defended mine, and it was fulfilled),” Gachagua stated.
This comes just days after he reprimanded those who took advantage of the protests to settle political scores. Terming such leaders as idiots, Gachagua said it was saddening that some politicians were now out to settle political scores with individuals they differ on certain issues.
“There are even more idiots who tried to take advantage of the whole scenario to settle political scores with those they do not support and are trying to apportion blame. Kenyans are very intelligent; they see from far, analyze and understand,” Gachagua said on Friday, July 26, 2024.
