Activist Hanifa Adan, on Friday, January 23, 2026, dared the Wajir governor to verify his point on his latest remarks.

Responding to a video on social media, the Activist called the governor’s sentiments a sham and threatened to release the reality on the ground.

“Huyu asifanye tufungue files za Wajir haha”, she posted.

Loosely translated to “Don’t make us open Wajir files”

In the video, the Governor says, among other things, that schools in the region do not need pavements as the region already has fine sands that cater for school pathways.

The governor said this while responding to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the underdevelopment of the northern Kenya counties.

“We don’t need to pave our schools, our sand is fine”, Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi responds to Gachagua, saying underdevelopment in Northern Kenya is a result of legacy issues.

Gachagua’s interview

This came after Gachagua commented on the lack of development in northern Kenya in an interview that was widely boycotted by a number of media stations.

“If journalists can be intimidated to deny their listeners an opportunity to face the truth about their lack of development and poverty, who will help the people of Northern Kenya?” he said.

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi criticised the decision by certain journalists to skip Rigathi Gachagua’s interview, characterising the boycott as a strategic blunder.

“The media cannot boycott him because they disagree with him. The media expresses an opinion only when rendering an editorial. This was a mere interview… a question-and-answer session. They should have interviewed him and asked him all the hard and difficult questions they had in mind. Boycotting Hon. Gachagua by NFD media is a stupid act of journalistic cowardice,” said Senior Counsel.

Hanifa made this dare shortly after she challenged Kenyan parents to become more proactive in safeguarding their children’s well-being.

She clarified that confronting abuse is a matter of child safety rather than a sign of disrespect toward educators.

Furthermore, she insisted that parents must reject the normalisation of violence and instead become fierce advocates for their children within the school system.
