Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has criticised President William Ruto for hosting a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirants’ meeting at State House on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, saying the move undermined the dignity of the country’s highest office.
In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, February 5, Salasya said State House is a national institution that should remain neutral and should not be used for partisan political activities.
He argued that turning the presidential residence into a venue for party meetings lowers its standards and blurs the line between government and party politics.
“Ama president Ruto just paint entire state house yellow and replaced anything written state house to UDA headquarters kwa sababu huezi dunisha the state house standards to funny colours of yellow. Even Museveni has never taken NRM meetings to the State House in Uganda, and the same place you call for cabinet meetings is uncouth behaviour,” Salasya stated.

Salasya compared Kenya to other countries in the region, noting that even long-serving leaders such as Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni have not held ruling party meetings at State House.
The meeting at State House brought together thousands of UDA aspirants from across the country ahead of the 2027 General Election. President Ruto used the forum to assure the aspirants that the party would conduct free, fair and credible nominations.

He urged them to avoid violence, respect one another and support women candidates seeking elective positions.
