Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) was under heavy police presence on Tuesday morning, with strict restrictions on all roads leading to and from Parliament. Officers stationed along these routes have been screening and questioning individuals before allowing them through, creating an atmosphere of heightened vigilance.
Security has also been intensified beyond Parliament, with officers visibly deployed at key strategic points throughout the city. According to one officer involved in today’s deployment, “The government is taking no chances given the latest developments in the political scene.”
These measures follow growing unrest, as youth gathered at X Space last evening to condemn President William Ruto’s administration. They warned of potential street protests if the government continues its alleged “human rights violations” and governance by an “iron fist.”
Meanwhile, supporters of activist Kebaso Morara, who was recently detained, are demanding his immediate release. They have vowed to take to the streets if the government does not comply.
This rising tension coincides with the expected tabling of the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Parliament, adding to the political uncertainty and prompting heightened security measures across the city.
