The Mara Elephant project crew has begun an intensive aerial search for a missing colleague who drowned alongside Dennis Mwangi, a fuel lorry driver, in the Mara river some 8 days ago.
The assistance provided by experienced helicopter pilot Marc Groose in air operations above the crocodile and hyena-infested wild river in Narok West paid off yesterday when deep-sea divers from the Coast discovered a body believed to be that of the driver who drowned.
One decomposed half-body, believed to be that of the driver, was discovered yesterday along the banks of Tangulia Camp, 100 kilometres west of the station, and was later taken to Longisa mortuary for forensics, but confusion is allegedly rife, with each of the two families claiming ownership.
On that fateful day, three men reportedly drowned, but one luckily survived and is currently stable under bed rest at Nairobi’s Kenyatta Hospital.
The ground operation, on the other hand, is made up of locals, Narok County Government forest and game rangers.
