The 2024 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) runners-up, Kinale Girls High School, delivered an impressive performance at the ongoing Safari 7s in Machakos County, clinching victory across multiple categories. The central region school dominated the tournament, sweeping the Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14 girls’ divisions to achieve a triple crown.

Under the guidance of Coach Allan Bush, Kinale’s Under-18 team began their title campaign with a strong 24-5 win over St. Teresa’s High School on Friday, setting a positive tone for the tournament. Their momentum only increased as they routed Katwanya Secondary School with a staggering 55-0 victory in their second match.

Continuing their impressive form, Kinale defeated Kivuti Secondary School 33-0 in the third game, maintaining a clean sheet and sending a clear message to their rivals. In the final match, Kinale faced St. Teresa’s once more and secured a commanding 38-0 win, clinching the Under-18 title.

Kinale’s success at the Safari 7s reflects the school’s rapid rise in rugby. Since the sport was introduced at the institution late last year, the team has shown remarkable growth, making their debut at the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) nationals earlier this year in Kisii, where they finished as runners-up to St. Joseph’s Kitale. This performance earned them their first ticket to the East Africa championships, where they again secured second place behind St. Joseph’s Kitale.

Highlighting Kinale’s triumph at the Safari 7s was the outstanding performance of speedster Rose Okwemba, who emerged as the tournament’s top try-scorer with eight tries.

In the Under-18 boys category, the Eagle Community rugby team claimed victory after winning three out of their four round-robin matches, finishing with nine points.
