Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed he warned his former teammate Wayne Rooney about taking the Birmingham manager’s job.

NEWSUNPLUGKE  recalls that Birmingham sacked Rooney on Tuesday, who oversaw just two wins in 15 games following his controversial appointment at St Andrew’s last October.

Speaking after he was sacked, Rooney insisted the ’13 weeks he spent at Birmingham were not sufficient to oversee the changes that were needed at the club.’

Reacting to news of Rooney’s sack, Ferdinand told Vibe with Five: ” Managers are not afforded 13 weeks, which Wayne feels isn’t long enough to put his stamp on a team.

“I always thought at the beginning and I spoke to Wayne when he got the job on the phone, I spoke to him at the time, that it’s a difficult time to go into a club when the tails are up, they are doing well and they like the manager.

“Nine times out of ten, a manager replaces someone who is not doing well; this was a different scenario and his back was against the wall from the start.”
