A boda boda rider died instantly after a lorry loaded with sand knocked him down along the Siaya Lwanda road.
The Thursday 5:30 pm incident left traders and touts who were persuading members of the public to board PSVs heading to Lwanda and Kisumu in deep shock.
An eyewitness said the boda boda rider, whose identity is still unknown, was listening to music through earphones before he was hit by the speeding lorry that was travelling in the opposite direction.
The deceased met his untimely death just outside Siaya townwhile heading towards Karapul School.
The tragic accident, which left the motorbike badly damaged, occurred next to Bama Hospital, just a few metres from Siaya CBD.

The lorry, registration number KBY 164N, was heading to Siaya town.
It is reported that the impact severely damaged the deceased’s head.
“The deceased’s phone caught fire at the moment of impact,” said a witness.
The lorry, which was being driven by a man identified as Ja Imbo, sped to Siaya Police Station, where it was parked behind the canteen.
Confirming the incident through a phone interview, area police commander Evaline Cherotich said it was true that a boda boda rider lost his life on Thursday evening.
Cherotich said the body had been collected and taken to Siaya Referral Hospital mortuary, and an inquest file had been opened.
“The police have launched investigations into the incident, and the lifeless body of the deceased has been moved to Siaya Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem analysis,” she said.
“We shall give more details once we are done processing the incident later in the night,” Cherotich added.
Melvin Ochieng, a shop attendant opposite Karapul Filling Station, said he saw the lorry speeding and became concerned.
Residents of Kalulu have decried the incident and asked police officers to enforce road safety rules to curb road carnage.

“Our boda boda riders must also remain vigilant and sober on the roads and avoid distractions such as listening to music,” said Peter Othieno, a boda boda rider.
He asked the police to ensure that justice is served to the kin of the deceased.
“We demand that the driver of the ill-fated vehicle be arrested.
However, we read mischief in the manner the lorry was parked at Siaya Police Station and wonder whether justice will be served to the affected family,” he said.
The incident comes only a week after Assistant Pastor Vincent Ochieng Odhiambo succumbed to internal bleeding after he was hit by a lorry along Siaya Ndere road.
Ochieng was on his way to church, where he was scheduled to chair a meeting as instructed by Apostle Elijah.
