A 9-year-old boy from Ramba village in Homa Bay County on Saturday, July 8, 2023, lost his life after drowning in one of the dams while playing with friends.

Witnesses say the boy had gone to play with friends a distance from their home before he met his death. He lost his life after sliding into the dam which was dug behind Ramba market.

Efforts by the villagers who rushed to the scene after his friends raised an alarm for a rescue mission were futile since they found him dead.

Kodhoch West location chief Charles Dete who confirmed the incident warned parents against leaving their children without care especially when they are at home.

“I want to tell parents to ensure they take good care of their children when they are at home and especially during this rainy season,” he said.

“Our dams are full, our rivers are overflowing and they should not be allowed to get closer or play in such areas,” he added.

The body was moved to Rachuonyo sub-county hospital mortuary for preservation.
