A driver of a lorry was left nursing minor injuries after a lorry he was driving lost control before crashing in the Rawinji area, near Oyugis town, in Homa Bay county.
Residents who witnessed the incident said that the brand new lorry was coming from the general direction of Kisumu – heading towards Oyugis town.
“The driver lost control some few metres from Oyugis town. He tried to steady the vehicle, but it shifted to the other side of the road where it hit a bodaboda rider,” said Felix Okoth, who witnessed the incident.
“The vehicle almost hit me. I was very lucky to escape being run over,” said Okoth who had just returned to Oyugis from his place of work in Kericho.
The lorry would later smash into two shops on the side of the road, before coming to a stop.
“A child who was standing near one of the shops escaped by a whisker after dodging the lorry,” said Okoth.
Police from Oyugis arrived at the scene in time to maintain order, and have the vehicle towed.
The bodaboda rider was rushed to the nearby Evans clinic, in Oyugis town.
