A grade three student drowned in a river near the Gendo-Kibwer bridge in Gendo village, Gwasi East Sub Location within Suba South constituency, Homa Bay County on Sunday evening.

The third-grade pupil drowned while out at the river to wash her clothes.

The 12-year-old girl was with her siblings during the incident.

Reports indicate the river was swollen from the ongoing rains pounding different parts of the country.

According to Andrew Ombisa, chief of Gwasi East Location, the minor went to get water from the bridge while they were washing their clothes, and she slipped and drowned in the river.

According to the administrator, members of the public who were called to the scene were able to retrieve the deceased body before it was turned over to police, who moved it to St Camilus hospital Mortuary.

He appealed to parents to always watch over their children to avoid such accidents.
