Detectives have arrested Fleviar Muhonja Anaya, a 29-year-old housekeeper who stole Ksh.2.2 million from her employer’s home.
The arrest followed a coordinated effort by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Headquarters and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.
The incident happened on March 16, 2025, when Muhonja was left alone at her employer’s house. A security guard later observed her leaving with a large carrier bag. When questioned, she stated that she was delivering an item for her boss.
Suspicious, the employer attempted to contact her, only to find her phone turned off. She rushed home and discovered that the money had gone missing.
Investigators launched a forensic-led investigation, tracing Muhonja to Malava, Kakamega County, where she was arrested. She then led detectives to Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Sh700,000 was discovered at her grandmother’s house.
Further searches of her rural home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, revealed three chain links purchased with the stolen funds.
The investigation expanded to Nairobi’s South B, Fuata Nyayo neighborhood, where detectives seized an additional Ksh.800,000 from her rented home.
Muhonja is currently in custody at the Capitol Hill Police Station, awaiting court proceedings.
