Humphrey Kayange elected Kenya Rugby Union director

Former Kenya sevens skipper Humphrey Kayange was elected director in the Kenya Rugby Union elections held at the RFuEA ground.

Kayange who had a long distinguished career as a player and who now is the male representative at the National Olympic Committee of Kenya garnered 18 votes coming second to incumbent Leslie Mwangale who had 19. They were taking the top two.

Peri’s Mukoko came third with 17 votes while former coach and international Ken Thimba was placed fourth with 14.

In a short victory speech, the Mwamba RFC legend said he will prioritise player welfare and governance in his three-year term at the helm.

“For me, those are the two critical areas we need to look to ensure our players for our national teams are well taken care of and given a platform to do the country proud in various assignments” added Kayange.

In the race for secretary, former Kabras RFC chairman Ray Olendo edged director Oscar Mango by 18 votes to 17 while Moses Ndale retained the vice chairman seat by defeating Dennis Ombui 19-16.

Alexander Sasha Mutai was elected chairman unopposed after his closest challenger Joe Onsando withdrew from the race at the 11th hour while Joshua Aroni was elected unopposed as treasurer

Four directors were also elected.

They included Harriette Okach who garnered 19 votes and Embu RFc chairman Moses Mukabane who was placed second with 18 votes.

Others are Ochieng Ahaya who was third with 17 and John Kilonzo who bagged 16 votes. The four will serve a four-year term
