Lari MP Mburu Kahangara, representing Kiambu County under the Kenya Kwanza party, stated unequivocally that he stands by his decision to vote “Yes” during the contentious Finance Bill debate, which has subsequently been withdrawn.
He emphasized that he carefully studied and analyzed the entire document, noting its potential to propel the country towards significant development milestones. Kahangara assured his constituents that even President William Ruto would not support legislation that could harm the nation’s interests.
. “I cannot see a reason as to why I can apologise. I supported the bill based on what I had read and understood it” he said.
He added; “Even the President himself did not have plans to mislead you or anyone. However, let us respect what happened, we shall sit down in future and look into the controversial clauses.”
He addressed the gathering at Kimende town within his Lari constituency while distributing bursary cheques to day school secondary students across the constituency. Despite facing criticism from local Gen Z residents, the event proceeded without disruptions or hostility towards the lawmaker, contrasting with incidents seen in other constituencies.
During the event, the MP mentioned that a meeting involving local education officials, school principals, teachers, and boards of management had been convened. They reached an agreement to reduce the fees for the feeding program.
The legislator explained that the stakeholders had standardized the feeding program costs, with each parent required to contribute Sh 2000 per term, while the remainder would be covered by the National Government Constituency Development Fund.
