Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has claimed he was ‘sad’ after Spain defeated England in the Euro 2024 final on July 14.
According to Arteta, he was sad because Arsenal players like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice were part of the Three Lions squad that lost to Spain.
The Gunners boss spoke ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season clash with Bournemouth on Thursday.
The Spaniard said he loves his players and also wants the best for them, adding that it was a tough moment for them to lose the Euro 2024 final.
Recall that Spain defeated England 2-1 to win this year’s Euros in Germany.
“I’m extremely proud of my country [Spain], and it was a great moment for us to win [the Euro 2024],” Arteta said as quoted by Arsenal’s website.
“This generation had to really earn it in the last few years to get that belief. At the same time, I was sad because you love your players and you want the best for them, and it was a tough moment for them.”
