‘I will be victorious when I see DJ Evolve walk’ – Babu Owino says after acquittal in gun case

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili popularly known as Babu Owino now says although he was acquitted of misuse of firearm charges in relation to the shooting of Felix Orinda, alias DJ Evolve, he is undeterred and wants a more tangible victory.

Speaking after the judgement, Babu Owino expressed gratitude to his legal team however he said, the only measure that could be sufficient for him to declare victory is when DJ Evolve fully recovers.

The lawmaker affirmed his support for the ailing Disc Jockey and announced plans to facilitate his treatment abroad.

“The day I will be victorious is the day I’ll see DJ Evolve walk and stand by my side. Until he recovers, I want to assure the public that will walk by his side and will always be there for him. I’m planning to take him to India for further treatment and I pray he will walk again in the near future,” Babu Owini stated.

Babu however added that according to him, the judgement went God’s way.

In a judgement delivered on Tuesday, August 29, Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi freed Owino for lack of evidence.

He stated that the 10 prosecution witnesses availed did not prove the charge against him beyond a reasonable doubt.

“Having evaluated the evidence before me, it is my finding that the prosecution did not prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, the victim denied that he quarrelled with the accused. For the above-stated reasons, the accused is found not guilty and acquitted under section 215 of the CPC,” the magistrate ruled.

While acquitting the MP, the magistrate said that the prosecution did a shoddy job during the investigations of the case.

The MP had been accused of shooting and injuring DJ Evolve at B Club in Nairobi’s Kilimani area on January 17, 2020.
