The National Police Service has commenced investigations into a security breach during President William Ruto’s public address in Ganze, Kilifi County, on Sunday.

A man managed to dodge President Ruto’s security and joined him on stage during his address at a thanksgiving service for Youth Principal Secretary (PS) Fikirini Jacobs.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja however, maintained that despite the matter being handled swiftly by security officers, any breach involving the Head of State is a matter of grave concern.

“I have immediately constituted a special investigations team to conduct a swift, thorough, and uncompromising inquiry into how this breach occurred,” he said.

He maintained that the President’s security is a matter of national security and any security threats against the President will be handled with utmost force.

“We wish to make it clear that all persons attending public events, particularly those involving the President and other national leaders, must strictly adhere to established security procedures and protocols at all times,” Kanja said in a statement.

“We will take every necessary measure to ensure such an incident is never repeated and that the highest standards of security are maintained for the President, national leadership, and the nation.”

He was replaced by Mr. William Sawe, who was moved from his role as Commanding Officer of the Recce Sub Unit.
