Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to defend former President Uhuru Kenyatta against any attacks that could tarnish his legacy and character. Speaking to Mt Kenya vernacular radio and TV stations, Gachagua emphasized that it is time for the country to stop blaming Uhuru for everything that goes wrong.

“I will not let Uhuru Kenyatta’s name be dragged through the mud ever again because I am the one who will defend him now. We want Uhuru’s name to be respected because he did a lot of work in this country,’ he said.
Gachagua said Kenyans should let the retired President and his family enjoy their peace.

He at the same time reiterated the need to ensure the former President is given his retirement perks as required by the law.

“Let him be given his retirement benefits, his cars and his bodyguards,” he added.
Gachagua said Uhuru had warned the region yet they did not listen to him, noting that he went to Kasarni during the handover, embarrassed.

“He went to Kasarani embarrassed and handed over the sword. Now it has been two years since then, why are we still blaming him for our problems like the economy? Let us leave him alone,” he said.
“Let him rest and for us, the problems we have as a government we should handle them ourselves.”

In May 2024, speaking at a rally in Kiambu County, Gachagua sensationally stated that the Mt Kenya region was misled into denigrating their king.

He started reaching out to Uhuru and the region for reconciliation, saying they would never again vilify “the king of the Kikuyu community”.
“Let us teach our youth never again to be used by anyone to vilify our king. Let us love each other so that we get our rightful share of the Kenyan cake,” he said.

Gachagua declares, “I won’t stop fighting for unity and the interests of Mount Kenya.”
