Roma manager Jose Mourinho has apologised to Renato Sanches for taking him off after 18 minutes.

Sanches had been introduced during their 2-0 defeat at Bologna in Serie A on Sunday.

The midfielder was introduced in place of Leonardo Spinazzola at the break and made very little impact on the game.

However, Mourinho made a double substitution in the 63rd minute, including Edoardo Bove in place of Sanches.

After the game, Mourinho said: “I wanna apologise to Renato Sanches. Subbing him off after 18 minutes is tough for the player, but same for the manager. I did this 3–4 times during my career. I’m sorry with Renato.”
