Kakamega Homeboyz team manager Boniface Imbenzi believes a majority of his players have what it takes to play for the national team, the Harambee Stars.
The Patrick Odhiambo-led side has sharpshooter Moses Shumah as their only representative on the national team, but Imbenzi is keen to see the representation go up.
He has tipped the trio of Brian Munyendo, Moses Mudavadi, and goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala to follow in Shumah’s footsteps on the national team.
“I can’t say that Moses Shumah is Kakamega Homeboyz’s best player, but he is among our best in the current squad.
“That shows you how rich we are in terms of quality and players who are capable of featuring for the national team.
“We have center-back skipper Brian Munyendo, winger Moses Mudavadi, and also our younger goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala, who all should be given the platform to play for the national team,” Imbenzi said.
Shumah scored Kenya’s solitary goal in a 1-0 win over Pakistan in the four-nation tournament in Mauritius in June on his full debut.
“In my team, I can recommend some players to be called up in the Harambee Stars squad.
“But for Shumah, I am happy for him since he is in the plans of the Harambee Stars technical team, and he is equal to the task of performing at the highest level, which is very positive for us,” Imbenzi added.
Stars get their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign at home to Gabon on Thursday before facing Seychelles at Abidjan on Monday.
Shumah will jostle with the duo of skipper Michael Olunga and Masoud Juma for a starting berth.
