Two people tragically lost their lives on Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle in the Decimo area of Ruaka, Kiambaa constituency, Kiambu County. According to police, the vehicle involved in the fatal incident, a new Toyota Land Cruiser SUV, was set ablaze by an angry mob following the accident.

Kiambaa Sub-county Police Commander Pius Mwanthi reported that the victims, a man and a woman, were attempting to cross the road on foot when they were hit by the vehicle. “They died on the spot,” he stated, adding that an investigation into the incident is underway. He expressed concern over the rising number of accidents along the road recently, saying, “There has been a rise in such accidents, and it is worrying. We urge caution from pedestrians and other road users.”

The driver of the SUV fled the scene immediately after the accident, sensing that a mob was out for him. Police have since launched an investigation to locate the vehicle’s owner and determine the exact cause of the accident. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Kihara mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the wreckage of the vehicle was moved to the Kiambaa police station for further investigation. This incident occurs amid an increase in fatal accidents across the country.
