Authorities in Bomet have intensified their crackdown on counterfeit goods, leading to the seizure of 735 cartons of fake alcohol at Kapset shopping center in Kimulot, Konoin Sub-county, Bomet County.
The operation, carried out on Thursday evening by a multi-agency team, resulted in the confiscation of alcohol valued at Ksh. 1.8 million, following a tip-off from the public.
Bomet County Commissioner Omar Ahmed revealed that police faced significant resistance from a group of youths as they attempted to access the storage location of the illicit liquor.
“Our officers from Kimulot police station encountered challenges as the youths, believed to be involved in the illegal alcohol trade, pelted stones and caused chaos. However, with assistance from other officers from Bomet station, we successfully broke into the store, arrested the dealer, and seized a full lorry of illegal alcohol,” Ahmed stated.
He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities.
