Police in Nairobi have detained a man on suspicion of narcotics trafficking. According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday, the suspect was apprehended along the Eastern Bypass.
During the operation, bhang with an estimated street value of Sh600,000 was seized. The DCI noted that the arrest was made following intelligence leads, which enabled the anti-narcotics team to intercept the vehicle the man was driving.
“The herb that was concealed in a gunny bag in four bales and a motor vehicle have been detained as exhibits pending arraignment of the suspect,” the DCI said.
The suspect is currently being held at a police station in Nairobi.
This comes barely three weeks after police officers from the anti-narcotic unit seized seven sacks of bhang in Kilifi.
The bhang weighed 429.3 kg and had a street value of Sh12,879,000.
Kilifi county criminal investigations officer David Sielle said the bhang was seized at Kibao Kiche along the Mariakani Mavueni highway.
The CCIO said the bhang was loaded in a blue truck and two suspects were arrested.
