Detectives are investigating claims made by a French national who reported that suspected thieves broke into his house in Westlands, Nairobi, stealing his shotgun and other household goods. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between March and September this year while the man was out of the country for over six months.
According to police, the licensed gun holder had left for France for a business trip and had locked his house before departing. He learned of the incident through a friend whom he had asked to check on the property. The caretaker, reportedly an Ethiopian, whom he had entrusted to look after the house, has since gone missing and has been unreachable by phone.
Using a spare key sent from France, the friend opened the door to find the house in disarray. Police stated that the residence had been ransacked, and the weapon was missing from a safe. Upon inspection, officers discovered that all household items of unknown value had been stolen, along with vandalism to electrical appliances and sinks in the house. Authorities are currently searching for the missing caretaker as part of their investigation.
In a separate incident, police in Maralal town, Samburu, are probing a robbery in which a businesswoman was relieved of Sh800,000. The woman, who runs an electronic and M-Pesa shop at Kisma Trading Centre, reported that she was closing up when a group of six men—two armed with firearms and others with crude weapons—forced their way into the establishment. They assaulted the victim and her two employees before seizing a handbag containing the cash and two mobile phones.
As they fled on motorcycles that had been waiting outside, the gang fired shots into the air. Police believe the attackers had prior knowledge of the cash on hand and are actively investigating to apprehend the gang and recover the stolen weapon.
