Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has responded to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent apology to Kenyans and President William Ruto, demanding a personal apology for Gachagua’s past remarks on “shareholding” in the country. Amisi emphasized that Gachagua’s comments, which he believes marginalized many Kenyans, including himself, caused him deep emotional pain and a sense of worthlessness.
Amisi stated that the Deputy President must submit a written apology by noon on Tuesday if he wishes to retain his position as the second-in-command, amid an ongoing parliamentary vote that could see Gachagua removed from office.
“Dear #Gachagua, the only apology I will accept is to me personally and in writing. For segregating me as among Kenyans who have no shares in this country. This caused me unfathomable pain and a feeling of worthlessness. Please write to me by latest Tuesday at 12 pm or forever hold your peace,” Amisi said.
He further criticized Gachagua and President Ruto for fostering tribalism, calling it the “biggest malady” facing Kenya. Amisi hinted that unless President Ruto also apologizes, significant changes must occur to address the issue of tribalism in the country.
Earlier in the day, Gachagua had apologized to President Ruto and Kenyans during a church service at the National Prayer Altar in Nairobi. Gachagua acknowledged that his appreciation for voters may have been misinterpreted and asked for forgiveness.
“If my spouse in her duties with the boychild has wronged you in any way, please find it in your heart to forgive her,” Gachagua added. He further explained that his expressions of gratitude toward their supporters may have unintentionally made some people uncomfortable.
