Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku has urged various political factions to stop discussions about who might replace Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua if the impeachment motions are successful. Speaking on Sunday, September 29, 2024, Ruku expressed concern about the growing chatter regarding potential candidates for the deputy role, including Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
He emphasized the importance of allowing the parliamentary process to unfold without premature speculation. “If that process succeeds (impeachment), then let the discussions on who will be the next Deputy President of Kenya start, but starting that kind of narrative and discussions at the moment is premature and prejudicial because we are not sure what the courts will decide,” Ruku stated.
Ruku called on leaders who have initiated meetings to propose candidates for the Deputy President position to wait for the National Assembly and Senate’s decision. “Let us give the President of the Republic of Kenya the room, when that time comes, to appoint whoever he thinks is the most appropriate to help him and be his principal assistant,” he added.
He mentioned that the plans to impeach DP Gachagua are being finalized for presentation in the coming weeks, asserting that Kenyans will learn of the specific accusations against Gachagua when the impeachment motion is tabled. This comes as Gachagua continues to warn against efforts to remove him from office, asserting that he was elected alongside President Ruto and that only the people of Kenya have the authority to oust him.
He however lamented that money had been poured to MPs to sign his impeachment motions.
On Sunday September 29, 2024, Gachagua after a church, asked the faithful to pray for his boss and the entire Kenya Kwanza administration.
“It is my hope that sanity will prevail, we tone down on politics of division and we work for Kenyans. We were elected two years ago and we have not yet done the work that we promised to do,” Gachagua noted.
