Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has addressed growing concerns about fraudulent activities in Eldoret, following a Citizen TV exposé that revealed how over 300 people were scammed out of hundreds of thousands of shillings with false promises of jobs in Canada.

Governor Chelilim stressed that the actions of a few dishonest organizations have unfairly damaged Eldoret’s reputation as a vibrant, cosmopolitan hub. He reassured residents and investors that Eldoret would continue to grow, innovate, and create opportunities.

In response to these scams, Chelilim announced an immediate crackdown. He stated that his administration, in partnership with local and national authorities, will revoke the business licenses of any entities found violating regulations. The aim, according to Bii, is to restore public trust and ensure such fraudulent practices are swiftly dealt with.

The Uasin Gishu county governor also called on the National Employment Authority and the Ministry of Labour to strengthen vetting procedures for international opportunities, reinforcing accountability at all levels to protect the citizens of Eldoret.

“Eldoret should be recognized for its achievements and potential, not tarnished by the actions of those who exploit our hardworking residents,” Chelilim said. He expressed deep sympathy for the students and families affected by these scams and urged the public to exercise caution and thoroughly investigate any opportunity that seems suspicious.
