Kenya’s rugby legend Collins Injera will today be inducted into the Melrose Sevens Hall of Fame for his heroics on the rugby field over the years.
This is according to the Melrose Sevens organisers who announced on their website while confirming the induction event is set to be held at the Greenyards, United Kingdom. Melrose Sevens tournament director, Phil Morris said it was an honour for Injera to attend in person for his Induction after an incredible career spanning two decades.
“It’s fantastic news that Collins is able to join us in the person to be formally inducted into the Melrose Sevens Hall of Fame, he had an incredible career on the sevens circuit, and we look forward to welcoming him here to Melrose,” said Morris on Melrose Sevens tournament website.
Injera’s induction to the Melrose sevens comes months after he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in Fiji where he was celebrated by the Fijians for an outstanding career.
The Kenyan legend was inducted alongside great rugby names to have played the beautiful sport among them New Zealand legend Jonah Lomu, Fiji Waiasale Serevi, David Campese (Australia), Viliame Satala (Fiji), Ben Gollings (England), Karl Tenana (New Zealand) and Lote Tuqiri (Australia) in the Hall of Fame rich of talent.
Melrose Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Melrose Rugby Club, at The Greenyards in Melrose, Scotland.
It is the oldest rugby sevens competition in the world, having been launched in 1883 by former Melrose player Ned Haig.
Injera described the honour as a humbling experience with Melrose being the home of sevens rugby.
“I am really honoured to be inducted into the Melrose Sevens Hall of Fame and I look forward to seeing everyone in Melrose next week and being part of the event,” an elated Injera said.
The 36-year Kenya 7s top try scorer is ranked second on the all-time try-scoring list in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Injera boasts 279 tries with the national team Shujaa
