“The Judicial Service Commission wishes to bring to the attention of members of the public changes in the interview dates for candidates shortlisted for the position of judge of the Court of Appeal.
The interviews will now be conducted between 18. June and 9. July 2024.
A detailed schedule of the new interview dates can be accessed on the JSC website. “We regret any inconveniences caused,” the JSC announced in a statement.
In April, the Judicial Service Commission shortlisted 41 candidates for the Court of Appeal judges positions, after initially receiving 82 applications.
Some notable candidates who made the shortlist include former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Issack Hassan and lawyer Katwa Kigen. Justices Chacha Mwita, Anthony Mrima, and Lady Justice Grace Nzioka were also shortlisted.
Prominent figures who did not make the shortlist include former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, former IEBC vice chair Lilian Mahiri Zaja, Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) chairperson Priscilla Nyokabi, and Justice Nixon Sifuna.
The JSC had announced the vacancies for 11 Court of Appeal judges on February 2, 2024. These judges will serve until they reach the retirement age of 65 years for early retirees or 70 years as stipulated by law.
