Independent policing oversight authority (IPOA) has warned against attacks on police during the anti-government protests.
In a statement on Tuesday, the agency chairperson Anne Makori said they have noted with concern that the public are attacking police during protests.
“Our attention has been drawn to the raid on Bondo police station in Siaya County and the assault of a police officer attached to Sigomere police station inflicting serious injuries on him,” she said.
She said that the Ipoa team visited the officer at Maxcure Hospital in Kisumu where he is undergoing treatment.
“Ipoa wishes to caution members of the public against attacks on police officers on duty as this impedes the provision of security services, strips the public of policing services and amounts to the disregard of the rule of law of Kenya,” she said.
Ipoa has called on the public to abide the rule of law and maintain peace during protests.
“Ipoa remains committed to being independent impartial and fair,” Makori said.
